We spoke with the South Florida-based model to hear more about how she got her start, where she finds hope, and what empowers her day after day.

What inspires you?

Beauty inspires me; nature in particular.

What does a typical day at work look like?

I usually create a backstory “for my character”—the black widow that pushed her 2nd husband off a cliff or the natural Florida girl.

 

How did you get your start in modeling? 

I was “discovered” in 1986 in NYC at a club called Area by a booker at Click. I only modeled for a year or so after becoming a travel agent for 22 years. I was lacking the confidence that I have now!

 

Piece of advice for your younger self / One thing you wish you knew when you were first starting out?

The importance of good credit and sunscreen.

 

What are some of the biggest challenges you face in your industry?

Lack of representation;  27% of all consumer spending in the US is from women over 50 (Forbes). Very few mature faces on the runways of NYFW, PFW, MFW and LFW. I’m hoping that changes soon!

 

What makes you feel empowered?

A good high heel “To Tower is Power.”

 

What is one of your biggest successes so far?

My integrity hasn’t wavered.

 

 

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I’ll be 65 and even more fabulous!

Steely Dan, Rhye, Collective Soul, Arlo Parks, Sampha, Elvis Costello, Depeche Mode, Sampha.

 

What is your fashion uniform? 

Jeans, t-shirt and DM’s for good measure.

 

In what ways do you believe the fashion and modeling industry can empower girls and women?

IMO the industry is making strides to embrace our differences.

 

Who is your favorite designer?

For fragrance: Vered Signature, Balenciaga B, Bulgari Omnia Crystalline, Mugler Angel Nova. 

 

Who is your celebrity crush?

Jeremy Irons, Mads Mikkelsen, Ed Harris, Tommy Lee Jones, Monica Belucci, Viola Davis, Michelle Yeoh.

 

What is your favorite summer activity in Miami?

Paddleboarding and Kayaking—definitely being in the water!
