Co-Founder Larroudé

Marina Larroudé

An unmistakable player in the global fashion industry, Marina Larroudé has cut her teeth working in both editorial (Fashion Director of Style.com, Teen Vogue) and retail (VP, Fashion Director, Barneys). She’s drawing on her decades long experience to launch a dream that’s been years in the making. Larroudé is a more democratic way of dressing and accessing quality fashion, all the while delivering joy into people’s lives.

First of all, how are you doing?
I’m excited, a little anxious, happy, and overwhelmed, all at the same time. I feel an immense sense of accomplishment for being able to idealize, conceptualize, and launch a brand, all in the middle of a global pandemic. I’m a huge believer that during crisis there is opportunity. We lived through the financial crisis of 2008 and we saw how the country recovered from it. Having lived though that experience gave me a sense of calm and perspective to where we are now. Larroudé was born with a group of very talented people that were severely affected by everything in 2020. We, together, decided to build our own future and help others do the same. There is a strong bond in the team. We are a house, working for a combined better future for us and the community. We hope to bring that sense of community to our customers, and we are looking forward to giving more opportunity to the talented creatives currently looking to re-establish themselves in the marketplace.

If you could send a DM to your younger self, what would it be?
Be kinder to yourself. Do your best and enjoy the ride.

Describe your first memorable shoe-buying experience? Where were you, what did you buy, and how did you feel?
When I was a kid, I didn’t care about dolls. All I cared about was Melissa’s rubber sandals. I have the sweetest memories going to a shoe store in town with my grandmother. She used to treat me with those shoes. They were pink, sparkly and fun, and I just adored them! I wore them all the time. My mom couldn’t stand them! And to this day, she says that I had horrible taste in shoes. Looking back, I can see that my love for fun footwear started at a young age. I guess in some ways, I’m still trying to prove to my mom that I actually have good taste by launching Larroudé.

How do you feel about the launch of Larroudé?
It’s a dream come true! It comes with a lot of responsibility, but with the freedom to execute my vision for fashion directly to the consumer. To be able to listen to what customers want and transform that into products, my way. It’s very fulfilling. I cried the first time I saw the shoes, because of the outstanding quality and details in them. I can’t wait to see everyone wearing our brand.

What brings you joy lately?
Spending time with the kids, going for walks in Central Park with Ricardo, reading, watching Netflix, and being able to work from my bed :)

What is your secret dream (post-pandemic, of course)?
To go dancing. Ricardo and I love to go dancing on Saturday nights. We are also planning another RV trip—I’m counting down the days for that.
